Hundertwasser Haus

One of the first stops on our bus tour of the city was the Hundertwasser Haus. This unique building was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, the late Austrian architect and artist. It uses recycled building materials, has no straight lines (including, apparently, undulating floors), and has trees growing from within the building. Hundertwasser took much of his inspiration, particularly in eschewing straight lines, from nature, and added numerous lighthearted touches to the building.

A worms-eye view of the building, showing some of the trees growing on the roof. Each unit within the building has a different colour on the outside, which creates the multi-coloured facade.

Natasha and Sam in front of a fountain near the entrance to the building. In case you're wondering, the creature at the top of the fountain is a frog :)

A view from across the street, showing still more trees and bushes growing from inside and on top of the building. Coming closer to the small overhang, we can see...
... that each column is unique and creative. Coming a bit closer...

... we see that even the downspout (shaped like a face) is whimsical.

The following is a collage of photos from the Hundertwasser Haus, which give an overall sense of the colour, creativity, and greenery of the building.

Up next: Sam's first taste of ice cream. A live action video post!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
